This Thanksgiving we took a duck tour of Austin with Pop (Eric’s dad) Lola (Eric’s step-mom), and Amanda (Eric’s sister). It was colder than we excepted and windy. During the ride, Ona yelled, “GET OUT OF MY FACE, WIND!” She said it with so much hate and anger in her voice. Very funny.
In preparation for our Thanksgiving trip to see Eric’s family, we were talking a lot about Pop, Lola, and Amanda. In the car one day I said we were going to see Amanda and Ona said, “that’s daddy’s sister?” I said, “Yes, good job.” Then she said, “Ona’s sister is Uncle John.”
In the beginning of December we were grocery shopping. Ona kept kicking her boot off in the store. Each time I’d tell her nicely to keep her boots on. Finally on time 4 or 5, I asked her “what’s going on with you today?” She looked me in my eyes and said, “Mommy, I just be crazy.”
Since Ona’s birthday in July, she thinks everyone is 2. It cracks us up, that we ask her all the time, how old is mommy, how old is daddy, and so on. On one visit with Gigi and Tutu (Eric’s mom and grandma), he wanted to show them how funny it is she thinks everyone is 2 so he asked, how old is Tutu. Ona said, “really old!”
Ona has quite a sweet southern accent due to her daycare. She’s picked up some sayings that crack us up such as “he be crazy” and “come own” for come on, but the one that cracked me up the most was the verse of wheels on the bus that I’d never heard before: The Mommies on the bus say HUSH THAT FUSS! So funny, I asked her teachers to make sure I was hearing her correctly and they said yes. They changed it from daddies because they don’t want the children to be afraid of daddies. One day Ona was being sassy and jokingly I said, hush that fuss baby. Poor thing started crying. Haven’t said it since.
I have no idea where she gets this, but when she greets Milli the cat she’ll say, “hey boo boo” or “hey sweety.”
Ona has grown up so much this year. She’s soft spoken and shy at first, but she is a sassy little thing which pleases me to no end. She is charming, but won’t take any bull. At Troy’s Christmas Party this year, she was literally dancing around and singing songs. I love that she can feel comfortable just being who she is.

Ona is cracking me up lately with some of her new “tricks.” When you ask her a questions, a lot of times she’ll say, “ummm” before answering. In her high pitched voice it’s just so cute!
Ona’s really into numbers (shocker considering her father, right?). She run around saying, “1, 2, 3, 2, 1″ and “17, 18, 19, 17, 18, 19.” Her teachers say this is normal and that eventually she’ll count in the correct direction. I think it’s funny.
She’s starting to pick up some of our “bad” habits. The other day she told me “no dammit.” It surprised me and made me laugh so hard she’s bound to repeat it often.
She is also very polite. I love when she says “excuse me” to get by you or when people burp.

Here’s a picture of Ona from this week when Gigi, Eric’s mom Donna, took her to the park. I think it’s so cute, but the err camera angle makes her head look big….ya, that’s it:)

This spring break was unlike all other spring breaks…it was our first official family vacation. We went to Amelia Island for a few days. Ona LOVED playing in the sand and walking up and down the beach. She also loved throwing her little Elmo figurines into the water, shouting “oh no!” and then running to get them before the small waves took them away. I’m so impressed with how well she adapted to staying at a new place and all the sand. This was her first beach trip ever and probably only the 2nd or 3rd time introduced to water. It was too cold to go swimming really, but she walked up and down getting her feet and legs wet along the beach edge.
This is from Snow Mountain in Feb. She DIDNOT like the snow!

Ona said I love you for the first time last night. She said it 2x to Eric. It was the sweetest thing ever! By the end of the night she was saying it over and over…telling Elmo and all her toys. I just want to bottle her up.
Last weekend we went for a family hike up Stone Mountain. OMG-it was harder than I thought. I was out of breath and having to stop allot and I wasn’t even carrying the baby in the backpack. On the way down Ona fell asleep from all the hard work. I guess all that riding can wear a kid out. Poor Eric said the backpack almost doubled in weight when she fell asleep.

A few weekends ago I was in the living room with Ona. She started playing by herself really well. A few minutes went by and I looked over at her. She smiled up at me and then turned back to whatever she was playing with. A few more minutes went by and I looked over again. This time, she smiled back with a face and handful of lipstick. She had dug out my favorite lipstick and applied it on her face, hands, pjs, and the door. She was so cute.

Ona ate sushi for the first time and liked it. It was a cucumber roll, but she spit out the cucumber. Thank you Ru San’s for pretending to like our messy kid:)

Have I mentioned that Ona rocks lately? Well, she does. Today I took her to the park and there’s a half rock wall. A little boy climbed up it while she watched. I asked his mom, “how old is he?” Turns out he’s 8 months older than Ona. I said, “I can’t wait until she’s that confident.” After he was finished she walked up the to wall. She needed me to put her feet in the right place, but then she’d put herself up and grad the next rock. She went all the way up. I was so proud. The little boy and his mom had moved on and it took everything in me not to hunt them down and tell them. What do they care, but I was so excited!! Tomorrow Eric and I are taking Ona to a My Gym class.

Watch out Milli and other small animals! Ona is walking!! Now at home and daycare. More than walking, she’s enjoying the power of words. Her new favorite word is “up,” short for ‘pick me up suckers.’ The other night we hung out with Tom and Rachel and she repeatedly told Tom “up” to get to sit up on the couch next to him. She was so pleased when he complied:)
We’re looking forward to going to DC before Christmas. DC at Christmas is very special and I can’t wait to share it with Ona and catch up with all the DC folks. Yeah:)
Here are some pictures from Thanksgiving:

Today were speeches for school officers at the elementary school I work at. I haven’t felt this inspired in a while with promises of more ice cream, school dances, and cleaner hallways:) Haha, no really. To hear these kids speak passionately about things that are important to them was very moving. One student running for V-P said something that brought me to tears. He had students raise their hands if they thought they were the BEST students. Then he had teachers raise their hands if they thought they were the best teachers they could be. Then he said, “you may not be THE best, but I’m going to help you be YOUR best.” OMG. Watch out Chelsea Clinton–your competition is coming!
